US422 Pottstown Bypass Project

The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) plans to improve U.S. Route 422 between the Berks County line and the Sanatoga Interchange in Chester and Montgomery counties under separate projects over the next several years. This seven-mile section of Route 422 consists of two travel lanes in each direction, six interchanges, and numerous bridges. PennDOT plans to replace six critical structurally deficient bridges located within the project limits, including two large structures over the Schuylkill River; address deficient geometry to improve safety; reconstruct deteriorating pavement; improve interchanges; and lengthen acceleration and deceleration lanes to meet current design standards.
